THREE DAY DOULA TRAINING
JULY 10TH - 12TH, 2020
What’s a doula?
Doula is a Greek word that means mothers’ servant. In history women birthed with those who went before her; a mother, a neighbor, relative, or neighboring friends. Women aren’t meant to birth alone. Today most women work and may not have a village that comes to her. Doulas serve women in labor to be a support person who can provide physical, emotional, and to be a liaison between her and her medical staff. She is there to give her the benefits, risks, and alternatives to procedures that may seem over overwhelming to her. She is like grout to tile, she fills in where she is needed. The birth is not about the doula, but about the needs of the mother. Sometimes filling in for the mother, friend, sister, or neighboring support she never had and sometimes doesn’t even know she needs. It’s a selfless, giving, and intimate role to be part of.
